Komal Khanna

Hi, I’m Komal. Most of us learn how to survive long before we learn how to understand ourselves. We adapt to our families, relationships, cultures, and communities in ways that help us navigate life, but over time those same patterns can begin to feel limiting, exhausting, or lonely.

Therapy offers an opportunity to slow down and become curious about the story beneath those patterns.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I view challenges not as isolated problems within a person, but as experiences that develop within relationships, families, and the larger systems we live in. Together, we’ll explore not only what’s happening in your life today, but how you’ve come to understand yourself, your relationships, and the world around you. My hope is that through this process you’ll begin to experience yourself with greater compassion, clarity, and freedom.

My style is warm, engaged, and conversational. I strive to create a space where you can think out loud, ask difficult questions, challenge old assumptions, and deepen your relationship with yourself. I don’t believe therapy is about fixing who you are. More often, it’s about uncovering the parts of yourself that have been buried beneath fear, obligation, perfectionism, self-criticism, or simply doing what you needed to do to survive.

My work is informed by attachment theory, family systems, trauma-informed care, and experiential approaches. I’m especially drawn to understanding how our earliest relationships shape the ways we love, protect ourselves, seek belonging, and move through change. I work with individuals navigating perfectionism, relationship challenges, identity, anxiety, and life transitions, and I have a particular passion for supporting members of the South Asian community.

As a second-generation South Asian therapist, I understand the complexity of living between worlds—holding personal hopes while balancing family expectations, cultural values, and evolving identities. I appreciate the many ways culture, language, and lived experiences shape our relationships, our sense of self, and the healing process itself. While this perspective informs my work, I welcome clients from all backgrounds, identities, and belief systems with warmth, curiosity, and respect.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent several years in healthcare leadership, pediatric care, and behavioral health. As a Children’s Health Home Supervisor, I led multidisciplinary teams, supported clinicians, and helped coordinate care for children and families with complex needs. That experience strengthened my belief that healing happens best when people feel understood within the full context of their lives, relationships, and communities. Today, I bring that same collaborative, thoughtful, and systems-oriented perspective into my therapy work.

At the heart of my work is a simple belief: everyone deserves a space where they can exhale. A space where they don’t have to perform, where every part of them is welcome, and where healing can unfold at its own pace.

If you’re looking for a therapist who will meet you with honesty, warmth, and deep respect for your lived experience, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist -Limited Permit under supervision at Brick City Therapy working toward licensure, LMFT in the state of New York. I look forward to sitting with you and helping you find healing and growth in your life that you deserve.

Holding space for every part of your story.
